Hazrat Syed Shah Karamullah (may Allah be pleased with him)
You were unique in renunciation and detachment, and unmatched in piety and scrupulousness in your time. Your lineage traces back to Hazrat Khwaja Abu Muhammad, Muhammad Arghoon (may Allah have mercy on him), who himself was a highly eminent Sufi saint, and the first successor of Huzoor Sarkar Badiuddin (may Allah be pleased with him).
Your personality was such a model of worship, spiritual discipline, and sincerity that the people of your time regarded you as being at a very high spiritual مقام.
Your daily practices were extremely admirable. In particular, you used to complete the recitation of the Holy Qur’an once every week. During recitation, whenever verses of warning (those describing divine punishment) appeared, such awe and fear of Allah would overcome you that you would weep profusely, and the color of your face would change. This state was a clear indication that your heart was filled with the fear and love of Allah Almighty.
An incident clearly illustrates your spiritual influence. One day, you were engaged in the recitation of the Qur’an when a man, intoxicated with alcohol, passed by. He watched you for some time. Suddenly, when his gaze fell upon you, your awe and spiritual majesty had such an effect on him that he began to tremble, and his intoxication immediately vanished. At that very moment, remorse arose in his heart, and he repented sincerely.
This repentance was not temporary; rather, his entire life changed. After that, he became so steadfast in prayer and fasting that throughout his life he never abandoned prayer, nor did he miss a fast of any Ramadan. This incident is a clear example of your spiritual power and inner reform.
Your demise occurred on the 27th of Dhu al-Qa‘dah, 1196 Hijri. Your shrine is located in Makhanpur, which even today remains a center of spiritual grace for devotees, where people visit to receive blessings.
Upon your demise, a chronogram (poetic verse indicating the date) was also composed, in which there is praise of your character and an indication of the date of your passing:
Chronogram of the date of demise
