Hazrat Wilayat Ali Shah Tabqati Madari (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) was a saint endowed with spiritual unveiling and miracles. He was counted among the most gentle-natured and noble-souled elders of the Tabqatiyya Madariyya order.
Moral Character
The state of his moral character was such that he never caused heartbreak to anyone; rather, in every situation he adopted forgiveness, forbearance, and good conduct.
Stay at Makhanpur and the Incident of Theft
On one occasion, he traveled to Makhanpur to participate in the blessed Urs of Huzoor Syed al-Muwahhidin ‘Umdat al-Athar, Hazrat Syed Badi‘ al-Din Qutb al-Madar (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ). On this occasion, he stayed outside the settlement at the resting place (takia) of Safdar Ali Shah, also known as Sher Ali Shah.
The Theft and the Unveiling of the Matter
One night, thieves stole his riding horse, which was very valuable and an excellent horse. Their intention was to take the horse overnight to such a place where it could not be traced. The thieves made repeated efforts of this kind and kept riding the horse at great speed, but whenever they realized their position, they found themselves still not outside Makhanpur. When only a small part of the night remained, the thieves, fearing that they might be caught for theft, abandoned the horse. When they all tried to walk away, they found their legs paralyzed and their eyes deprived of sight. At that moment, the thought occurred in all their hearts that perhaps this condition had come upon them because of stealing the horse of that saint.
With this realization, they brought the horse to his presence, stumbling as they walked, and appeared before him. Regretting their wrongdoing, they wept bitterly and fell at his feet, seeking restoration of their health. He forgave their mistake and took from them a pledge that they would never commit theft again.
Then he said, “Go, take this horse with you, for you have suffered greatly because of it.” When he said this, all of them became completely well and repented at his hands. They repeatedly refused to take the horse, but he handed the horse over to them and did not approve of their refusal in this matter.
