The firmament of Wilayah (Sainthood) is adorned and embellished with the radiance of countless stars and celestial bodies. Innumerable glittering stars constitute the beauty and splendor of the horizons of Wilayah. If I could illuminate the ink of my pen by writing even the luminous biography of one among these stars, perhaps I might thereby make some atonement for my sins. The pen that has been blessed with the honor of sacrificing itself at the threshold of such greatness, thus attaining dignity upon the pages of time and seeking comfort from the heat and severity of the Hereafter, now writes about the illustrious personality of the Muslim community—an exalted scholar, a knower of the mysteries of Truth, a defender of the Sunnah, and a fountainhead of the spiritual blessings of the Madari Order: Hazrat Allama Maulana Al-Haj Abul Waqar Sayyid Kalb Ali Hasani Husaini Jafari Madari (may Allah have mercy upon him).
A single ray from the radiant life of this blessed saint fell upon the fortunes of the unfortunate, and in but a moment the knots of destiny began to unravel. When this very light of the sun of Wilayah rose upon the horizons of people’s hearts, the valleys of thought and belief were illuminated with the dawn of certainty. Every corner of the lives of the people of true faith sparkled with this light, and people, intoxicated and absorbed in the ecstasy of Divine love, became steadfast adherents of the sacred Shariah.
This is the noble personality whom people know, recognize, and revere by the blessed title “Zaigham-e-Madariyat Abul Waqar” (The Lion of the Madari Order). Abul Waqar is the name of an exceptionally rare soul whose every breath was captive to Divine love, whose every spirit overflowed with devotion, and whose every tongue sang his praises. Were he to be described as a true lover of Allah and His Messenger, a saintly elder of angelic character, unwavering in faith, a true believer, the embodiment of sincerity and certainty, the very image of love and loyalty, the living continuation of the righteous predecessors, a reflection of the legacy of the Imams of Islam, a beautiful manifestation of the spiritual grace of the Friends of Allah, the confluence of intellect and love, poverty and knowledge, practice and wisdom, Shariah and Tariqah, the cradle of the favors and blessings of Sayyiduna Qutb al-Madar, the heir to the intellectual legacy of Abu Muhammad Arghun, the blood of Abu Turab (Sayyiduna Ali), the joy of Abu al-Hasan, the spiritual heritage of the masters of the exalted Madari Order, the self-sacrifice of Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (peace be upon him), and the inheritor of the majestic dignity and authority of Mawla al-Ka’inat (the Master of the Universe, Sayyiduna Ali)—even then, such descriptions would still fall short of his true stature.
He was such a rare embodiment of religious dignity and Islamic honor that his like can only be sought in the pages of history. In this age, none has appeared comparable to him. He was an unfathomable ocean of knowledge and spiritual wisdom, whose silence itself testified to the depth of his understanding, and whenever he spoke, the dark nights of disbelief and hypocrisy were illuminated by the radiant dawn of guidance and righteousness.
Those who beheld the exalted personality of Sayyiduna Abul Waqar (may Allah have mercy upon him) saw him in the gatherings of scholars, in the assemblies of the Sufis, among the pious, and in the company of the righteous. They saw him time and again, yet they found in him a unique beauty of appearance, an incomparable excellence of character, and remarkable simplicity of disposition. The world could only exclaim:
«For the sake of Allah, ask not those who behold you,
What manner of being you are in the eyes of those who gaze upon you.»
The days and nights of Hazrat Abul Waqar (may Allah have mercy upon him) were unlike those of ordinary men. He came as a manifestation of his Lord’s grace and mercy, feeling a profound responsibility to guide the misguided towards the Straight Path. Responding to the demands of his time, he left the comfort of his home to preach the true religion. He travelled extensively through Gujarat, Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madras, Bihar, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and many other regions, both within and beyond the country. With his blessed hands he cleansed the stains of sin from countless sinners and spread the fragrance of Tariqah and Ma’rifah wherever he went.
Numerous miracles (Karamat) manifested at his hands, many of which have adorned the pages of history. The services he rendered in preaching and propagating Islam throughout the greater part of the country are unparalleled. Besides the exalted Madari Order, eminent masters of many other Sufi orders also received spiritual blessings from him and were honoured with the mantle of Khilafah through him. Throughout his life he remained steadfast in following the blessed Sunnah and noble character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Then time took its inevitable turn. The blessed dawn of 25 Safar al-Muzaffar 1397 AH appeared—a dawn that filled the garments of the people of spiritual insight with pearls of tears. This magnificent and incomparable personality severed his ties with this transient world. The radiant sun of the spiritual path descended beneath the earth. A luminous lamp of knowledge and literature, having shone brilliantly, was extinguished. The restraint of relatives and loved ones gave way, eyes overflowed with tears, and before long multitudes from the surrounding regions gathered in grief.
«No one like him is to be seen anymore;
That earth is no longer the same, nor is that sky.»
Today, from the sacred shrine of this extraordinary personality, the blessed grave continues to convey an incomparable message:
«My existence is but a chapter of admonition in the Book of Time;
Look at me—I sit here as a living tale embodied.»
My pen offers its final tribute of devotion with these words:
«May the heavens shower dew upon your blessed grave,
And may the fresh greenery of Divine Light forever stand guard over this sacred resting place.»
