Hazrat Syed Yunus Abdal Taifuri Madari (may Allah have mercy on him) is counted among the most eminent and revered saints of the exalted Madariyya Sufi order. In his era, he held the rank of Abdal-e-Waqt (the Abdal of his time) and resided in the region of Shahjahanpur. Due to his gifts of spiritual unveiling (kashf) and miracles (karamat), his noble personality was well known among both the elite and the common people, and his states and conditions were a source of wonder and strengthening of faith for the people of spiritual insight.

Accounts of his life and spiritual excellences are found in reliable books. In particular, it is recorded in the book Bahr-e-Zakhkhar that Hazrat Syed Yunus Abdal Taifuri Madari (may Allah have mercy on him) used to reside in Lodhipur. Whenever he traveled from there to the city of Shahjahanpur, astonishing miracles would manifest. He would usually enter the river while wearing wooden sandals (kharāwen), yet despite entering the water, his sandals would not become wet.

Similarly, another miracle is mentioned that if he ever intended to place any load or baggage upon his head, that load would remain suspended in the air above his head. This sight would cause great amazement and astonishment to those who witnessed it, and people regarded these miracles as a special bestowal from Allah Almighty and as evidence of Hazrat’s lofty spiritual rank.

Hazrat Syed Yunus Abdal Taifuri Madari (may Allah have mercy on him) passed away on the 4th of Sha‘ban, 1196 Hijri. His blessed shrine is located in Lodhipur, which even today remains a place of refuge for people. Devotees and visitors come from far-flung regions to present themselves at his shrine and attain spiritual grace and blessings.
