In the Spiritual History of the Exalted Madari Order
In the spiritual history of the Exalted Madari Order, there have been certain personalities whose lives were largely spent in absorption (mahviyat), spiritual immersion (istighraq), and annihilation of the self (fana al-nafs). Among these eminent masters of the path, the name of Hazrat Shahab al-Din Ahmad Halla-Kash (may Allah have mercy on him) is mentioned with great respect.
He was a saint of high spiritual rank, though often overwhelmed by spiritual states (maghloob al-haal). He was a special disciple of the great spiritual master of his time, Hazrat Abu al-Waqt, Shaykh al-‘Asr, Sayyid Shah Nasr Allah (may Allah sanctify his noble secret).
Spiritual Lineage (Shajarah-e-Murshidiyyah)
The spiritual chain (silsilah) of Hazrat Shahab al-Din Ahmad Halla-Kash (may Allah have mercy on him) is highly elevated and معتبر (authoritative). Through several intermediaries, it connects to Hazrat Uswat al-Kamilin, Sayyid Abu Turab Khwaja Mansur (may Allah sanctify his noble secret), and ultimately reaches Hazrat Sayyid Badi‘ al-Din Ahmad Qutb al-Madar, Zinda Shah Madar (may Allah be pleased with him).
The order of the lineage is as follows:
- Hazrat Sayyid Shah Nasr Allah (may Allah sanctify his noble secret)
- Khalifah and successor of Hazrat Sayyid Shah Mu‘izz Hasan Sajzada
- He from Hazrat Shah Rahm Allah Tabaqat
- He from Hazrat Shah Abu al-‘Ala Mahtar Mahbub
- He from Hazrat Shah Abu al-Farah Matar Madan
- He from Hazrat Shah Sultan Ahmad
- He from Hazrat Shah ‘Ala al-Din ‘Ala al-Haqq
- He from Hazrat Shah ‘Abd al-Haqq Firoz
- He from Hazrat Shah ‘Imad al-Din Ahmad
- He from Hazrat Shah ‘Abd Allah
- He from Hazrat Shah Rizq Allah
- He from Hazrat Shah Abu al-Khayr Dariyanwal
- He from Hazrat Uswat al-Kamilin Sayyid Abu Turab Khwaja Mansur (may Allah sanctify their secrets)
- He from Hazrat Sayyid Badi‘ al-Din Ahmad Qutb al-Madar, Zinda Shah Madar (may Allah be pleased with him)
This lineage is clear evidence that Hazrat Shahab al-Din Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) possessed a most exalted spiritual connection and a strong, authentic chain of transmission.
Spiritual State and Condition
A prominent aspect of the life of Hazrat Shahab al-Din Ahmad Halla-Kash (may Allah have mercy on him) was his intense absorption and immersion in spiritual states. Often he would remain so deeply engrossed in divine attraction (jazb) and self-effacement that:
- His eyes would be closed,
- His head would be bowed,
- And he would sit seemingly detached from outward awareness.
This condition was not merely outward appearance; rather, it signified the culmination of inner spiritual discipline.
At the times of prayer, when someone would gently shake his shoulder, he would return to outward awareness and immediately join the congregation. This demonstrates that adherence to the Sacred Law (Shari‘ah) prevailed over his spiritual states.
Passing Away (Wisal)
This saint of spiritual state and divine attraction ultimately returned to his True Lord.
He passed away in 1245 AH, on the 21st of the blessed month of Ramadan — a month of mercy and forgiveness.
Poetic Chronogram of His Passing
Shahab al-Din Ahmad, the man who beheld the Truth,
Departed from this world toward the Abode of Eternity.
A line of chronogram was spoken with fervor:
“Shahab al-Din has gone to the Eternal Kingdom.”
Summary
Hazrat Shahab al-Din Ahmad Halla-Kash (may Allah have mercy on him) is among those saints whose silent life, deeply absorbed spiritual state, and firm attachment to the Shari‘ah convey a profound message for the people of spiritual realization. He is counted among those saints of spiritual حال within the Exalted Madari Order whose mention may be little, but whose impact is deeply enduring.
